The Department of Geology is now the Department of Earth and Ocean Sciences. Please bear with us as we make identity changes to this website and all our forms of communication.

Geology is an exploration of Earth's 4.6 billion-year history including:

rocks that compose it,
processes that modify and shape the Earth, and
resources like water, energy, and minerals that are important to society.

As geologists, we study earthquakes, volcanoes, glaciers, climate, fossils, groundwater, Earth’s crustal rocks, and even other planets in an effort to understand complex, interconnected planetary systems. We invite you to join us!
